“Blowouts have become a weekly necessity for so many New York women. The opening of our new blow dry bar takes the express service to a higher standard by delivering excellent work while educating the customer on how she can achieve the hairstyle she wants and maintain it throughout the week using Redken’s Pillow Proof Blow Dry products.” – Rodney Cutler, Redken Brand Ambassador and owner of Cutler/Redken Salons in NYC
Cutler Salon's Pillow Proof Blow Dry Bar: Address: 465 W Broadway # A, New York, NY 10012/Phone: (212) 674-2210
PRICE: $50 – $60 (depending on your choice of style or up-do).
CUSTOMER SERVICE: Compared to other blow dry bars, Cutler Salon’s Pillow Proof Blow Dry Bar is a boutique-like, upscale, personalized experience. I didn’t feel rushed. It was clear that clients expect and receive one-on-one attention. Plus, you’re in the hands of Cutler Salon stylists who are known to be among the best. And this is clearly true, based on the great results of the blowout.
ATMOSPHERE: Located in SoHo, the salon itself has a trendy and clientele. The sleek, modern space, designed by Jonathas Lanna Valle Filho, founder of SJ2a, features a stunning entrance that leads to a hip atelier with four styling stations equipped with iPads featuring Redken’s blowdry menu where stylists can consult with their client and help them choose the right look for them.
EXPERIENCE: D’Angelo Alston, my stylist, was extremely attentive to my hair needs. He gave me a great shampoo and conditioning. When we were ready to blow dry, he asked if it would be OK to use products. I said, “Of course!” (I have no issue with using products). He spritzed on the Redken Pillow Proof Blow Dry primer and then the volumizer – both smelled amazing. The products didn’t weigh my hair down at all and again, they smelled great!
RESULTS (SEE PHOTOS): Excellent! My stylist transformed my natural, slightly frizzy, long, wavy tresses into perfectly polished, smooth yet bouncy, photo shoot-ready hair within 40 minutes. On day two, my hair was still perfectly intact. On day three, I woke up with still-perfect hair (shocking!), and then had a big workout so I washed it afterwards.
According to D’Angelo Alston, the talented stylist at Cutler Salon who blew out my hair, the most requested styles are loose beachy waves, styles with volume on top, and anything that “feels kind of lived in.” Alston is often told by clients, “I want it done, but still lived in.”
